Alison Sakurovs represented Merrylands at the 2012 FINA World Masters Championships in Riccione, Italy in early June.

Approximately 10,000 swimmers packed the Italo Nicoletti Sports Centre from 10-16 June, filling the two 50m competitions pools, warm-up pools, grandstands and surrounding areas to capacity.

Alison competed in 4 pool events at the championships, with some good results, and in most of her events, beating the times she had posted at the National Championships in April.

On 16-17 June, the focus moved to the beach for the 3km Open Water Championships. Around 2,400 swimmers hit the water over the two days. Alison swam well, improving her ranking in both her heat and age group, to finish in a time just over 50 minutes.

The results from the Championships are available on the Results page and photos from the meet can be found in the Gallery. For a taste of what it was like to participate in the Championships, Alison's World Championships Diary can be found in the Features section.
