Day 3

Another massive day of swimming for Day 3 of the Australian Championships with 6 medals and 22 new personal best times.

First up on Day 3 was the 200m Individual Medley with Steven Nguyen, Kylee Murray and Ian Wilson all competing and setting new PBs.

Peter Johnston and Alison Sakurovs were up in the second event of the day - the 100m Butterfly. Alison swam a new PB of 1:16.69 to put the pressure on Peter. Peter couldn't manage a PB, but finished with a Bronze medal in a time just 1.04 seconds faster than Alison.

In the 100m Backstroke we had 4 swimmers. Shelley Zerni and Kylee both swam a new PBs of 1:24.18 and 1:44.07 in their age group, finishing 9th and 13th. Ian Wilson took over 2 seconds off his PB to touch in 1:18.86, while Ian Johnston also swam a new PB of 2:22.15.

The 50m Freestyle was up next with 12 of our team in action and 2 medals. Both Lauren Leckie and Alison Sakurovs finished with Bronze medals; Alison in a new personal best time of 29.02.
Shelley and Craig Leckie both swam new PBs. In heat 13, Melissa Cohen and Margaret Edwards pushed each other to new PBs of 40.68 and 41.02. The heats to watch though were those of Ian Johnston and Graham Edwards, who had pushed each other in the Veteran's Championships all year. Graham was up first in heat 20 and smashed his PB to finish in 35.43. Ian got his chance to respond in heat 23 and also smashed his PB to finish just ahead of Graham in 35.23. Tricia Johnston took 4.65 seconds off her time to swim a new PB of 54.08.

The final individual event of the day was the 200m Breaststroke. Steven Nguyen won Silver in a new PB of 3.00.24, impressing the crowd with the distance of his underwater pullouts. Lauren took home another Bronze medal in a new PB of 3:49.74, while Peter also finished with a Bronze.
Alison, Melissa, Ian Wilson and Ian Johnston all swam new PBs, with Alison, Melissa and Ian Johnston all taking huge amounts off their times.
