Australian Masters Championships - Day 1 - Latest News

Day 1

An excellent start to the 2016 Australian Masters Championships in Melbourne, with 14 new personal best times swum and 3 medals.

The 400m Individual Medley was first up, with Alison Sakurovs wining Bronze in a new personal best time of 6:18.85. Ian Wilson and Kylee Murray were our other competitors in the 400m IM and both also finished with new PBs.

The 100m Freestyle was up next and saw Alison win her second medal of the meet, with a Silver in a new PB of 1:04.08. Shelley Zerni also took home a medal, with Bronze in a time only a quarter of a second outside the PB she swam at the State Championships earlier this month. Kylee, Margaret Edwards, Ian Johnston, Tricia Johnston, Lauren Leckie and Ian Wilson all swam new PBs in the 100m Freestyle. Tricia swam 2 PBs in the same event, splitting in a new 50m PB, just as she did at State.

In the 50m Backstroke, Kylee swam her 3rd PB of the day, while Shelley also swam a new PB. The final individual event, the 100m Breaststroke, saw another PB for Tricia and her 3rd PB of the day.
