Members of the Merrylands Swimming Club had an enjoyable evening at Club Merrylands to recognise the swimmers and volunteers who achieved great results in the 2013/14 season.

The swim club trialled a different format this year and many members enjoyed a meal at the bowling club before the commencement of the presentation rather than during the proceedings.

The night kicked off with the presentation of the point score trophies. Anthony Farrugia won the Boys Pointscore and Sophia Vicic was the highest placed girl.

Tricia Johnston won the hotly contested Handicap Trophy while the other big competition, the Relay Competition, was won by the "Grumpy Old Men" (Mathew Edsall, Peter Johnston, Graham Edwards, John Farrugia, Ian Johnston and Ian Wilson).

Steven Nguyen was awarded with the Champion of Champions Award which was achieved through his success at club and representational level throughout the season.

Joshua Gillett received the Jack Smart Encouragement Award for consistent improvement throughout the season. The Jim Pye Development Award, or Minties Award was won by Tatiana Seravatu. The Minties Award perpetuates the memory of Life Member Jim Pye.

Karen Attard and Graham Edwards were the joint winners of the Lions Club Award for all their hard work throughout the season, working tirelessly behind the scenes. Karen Attard was also presented with the P Plate Award.

Ian Wilson was presented with the Learn to Swim Volunteer of the Year Award for his contribution to the Learn to Swim Program. Considering the voting rules had changed so that instructors were not able to vote for themselves this was a surprising (yet very deserving) outcome!

Five members of the club’s swimming squads were recognised for their efforts at training over the past season. Elijah Seravatu, Charlie-Rose El-Riachi, Michael Vicic, Sophia Vicic and Tricia Johnston all received a club beanie.
