Merrylands' team of 3 swimmers achieved some excellent results at the NSW Metropolitan Short Course Championships at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre on the weekend.

Our team swam 4 new personal best times at the meet from 6 events.

Alison Johnston, swimming in her first ever Metropolitan Championships, swam exceptionally well with new personal best times in both her events. First up in the 50m Freestyle, Alison took 0.05 off her PB to finish in 28.51. She returned on Sunday for the 100m Freestyle and took 0.30 seconds off her PB, touching in 1:02.59. Alison's results show just how much work she has put in at training since having her first child just over 14 months ago.

Reece Tomkinson's work at training also paid off at the meet with 2 new personal best times from his 3 events. First up on Saturday, Reece swam a new PB in his 100m Backstroke, finishing 15th in a time of 1:04.53, a full second faster than his previous best. On Sunday Reece returned for the 100m Butterfly and 50m Backstroke. His 100m Butterfly was just outside his PB, but his 50m Backstroke was a different story. In an excellent swim he took a massive 1.17 seconds off his PB to finish in 29.61 and swim under 30 seconds for the first time.

Steven Nguyen was our third swimmer at the Championships. Swimming in the 50m Freestyle, Steven swam his fastest time of the season finishing in 25.34.

Congratulations to our whole team on their performances at the meet.
