Peter Johnston joined the club in the 1986/1987 season.
Peter has represented the club at District Championships since the early 1990's and at the Metropolitan Championships since
1996. In 1994 Peter was awarded the Lions Club Award for clubmanship. He was Club Captain for
4 years from 1994 to 1997 and became a Committee Member in 1998, taking
on the position of Junior Vice President and then Assistant Race Secretary from 1999 to 2002. From
2003 to 2005 he took on the role of Race Secretary.
Peter has been involved with the club’s Learn to Swim Program since 1992, assisting Joanne Deshto as Learn to Swim
Coordinator in 2000 and 2001 and taking on the position again in 2004.
He has also been a member
of the club’s coaching staff since 1994 and became an accredited Coach
in 2002. In September 2005 he was appointed to the role of Head Coach and had to step down from the
Committee and the position of Race Secretary. Peter is an accredited Timekeeper, Finish Judge, Check Starter, Marshal and Starter.
Behind the scenes, Peter has developed the club’s website since 1999 and automated many of the club's
manual processes since 1998 including computer programs for the Senior Handicap and Club Championships
in 1998 and a new program for the Graded Pointscore in 2004. In 2012, Peter oganised funding for and the purchase of the club's electronic timing system. Peter has also been involved in helping
to organising various club activities including, swim meets, trivia nights, club trips,
presentation evenings and organising club uniforms.
At District/Area level, Peter has been a Cumberland/Metro South West Delegate since 2002, a Development
Squad Coach, a member of the Panel of Selectors and a member of the Competition and Development Committees.
