Future of Swimming Centres in Cumberland
Cumberland Council will conduct a Poll of Electors at the Local Government elections on Saturday, 9th September, 2017. The poll is to enable residents to give their opinion on the future of swimming centres within Cumberland Council.
The council currently operates five public swimming pools in the Local Government Area.
The question being asked at the in the poll is:
Do you support Council continuing to operate and subsidise all of these swimming pools?
YES/NO
A “Yes” vote may result in the 5 pools remaining open and being properly maintained.
A “No” vote may result in some pools closing within the next 3-5 years.
Club Members are encouraged to have their say by:
- attending one of the Community Consultation Meetings and voicing your concerns
- Monday 28 August 2017 – Granville Town Hall – 11am – 2pm
- Tuesday 29 August 2017 – Merrylands Oval – 6pm – 9pm
- Wednesday 30 August 2017 – Berala Terry Keegan Hall – 11am – 2pm
- Thursday 31 August 2017 – Pemulwuy Community Centre – 7pm – 10pm
- discussing your concerns with candidates in the elections
- discussing the issue with your family and friends
- discussing the issue with families from your local schools
- vote in the poll
Position Statement
The Club is encouraging the community to vote
YES in the poll.
The Club is keen to see Cumberland Council improve the swimming facilities within the local government area for all of the community to use – not close pools.
Merrylands Amateur Swimming Club Inc has been an active contributor to and participant in the Holroyd community for almost 50 years, utilising the Merrylands Swimming Centre for this entire period of time.
The Club plans to continue to promote and develop swimming through teaching and development programmes aimed at beginners, competitors and officials within the local community.
