Mitchell Emery made a spectacular return to form last weekend taking home gold in the 10yrs 100m Breaststroke and silver in the 10yrs 50m Breaststroke at the NSW State Age Short Course Championships.
Merrylands swimmers took home a total of 5 medals from the 11 events that they competed in making this year's Championships one of the club's most successful ever.
Mitchell, who had a disappointing start to the year, took a massive 4 seconds off his personal best time to win the 100m Breaststroke in a time of 1:28.30, over 2 seconds clear of the rest of the field. He then backed up his 100m performance to place second in the 50m Breaststroke in a time of 41.36, breaking his personal best time and finishing only 2/10ths of a second behind first place.
Troy Tomkinson also took home two medals. After winning the silver in the 13yrs 50m Freestyle at the Metropolitan Championships, Troy went one better to win the gold medal in a time of 25.69. In addition he won the bronze medal in the 50m Butterfly in 28.62.
Jordan Burden also had a very successful meet. He broke his personal best time in the 9yrs & Under 100m Freestyle to place second in a time of 1:13.50. Jordan was unlucky not to win a second medal in the 50m Freestyle after finishing 4th, only 1/100th of a second behind 3rd place in a time of 33.81.
As a club, Merrylands placed 48th overall with a total of 179 points, finishing ahead of a number of much larger clubs. Congratulations to all the swimmers involved.
