Merrylands recorded excellent performances at the NSW Masters State Championships on 11-12 April 2026, with swimmers combining for a total of 10 medals, 7 season‑best times and 1 personal best at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre.
Kylee Murray competed in five events and finished the championships with five medals, delivering an outstanding set of performances that included five season‑best swims. Her swims in the 50m Freestyle, 100m Backstroke, 50m Butterfly, and 200m Individual Medley were all season‑best times. Her victory in the 200m Freestyle was also a season best and was her second‑fastest time ever in the event, surpassed only by her swim at the World Championships last year. Her medal haul included gold in the 200m Freestyle, silver in the 50m Freestyle and 200m Individual Medley, and bronze in the 100m Backstroke and 50m Butterfly.
Alison Johnston also finished the meet with five medals and was one of the club’s standout performers. She secured gold medals in the 50m Freestyle, 50m Butterfly, and 100m Butterfly. Her 200m Freestyle swim earned silver and was recorded as a season‑best performance, while she added a bronze medal in the 100m Freestyle.
Leanne Tovkach rounded out our team with a series of excellent swims. Her 100m Freestyle was her fastest performance since 2023, while her 200m Freestyle was a new personal best, marking her second swim under four minutes and improving on her previous best by 2.22 seconds. Leanne also recorded a season‑best performance in the 100m Breaststroke.
These results provide an excellent platform as the club turns its focus towards the Masters National Championships in Brisbane in May. Thank you to our coaches for their preparation of the team, and to the supporters who attended to encourage the swimmers throughout the championships.
