Last Month of Club Races
Well, how quickly the season goes, as we enter the last four weeks of club races.
We have Championships today (50 metre, 25 metre & 200 metre Backstroke) and next week (1,500 metre Freestyle), a third (and deciding) Whales Challenge on 16th March and wrap up on the 23rd March with our final races and breakfast.
Whilst you (or a family member) may not be swimming in the 1,500 metre Freestyle Championship next week we ask that everyone arrive before 7.00am. The swimmers who are competing would appreciate your support and we need timekeepers across all 8 lanes and need to start these races at 7.00am to complete the morning on time.
Return Championship Trophies
As we move to the end of club races this month, we ask that you return any Championship Perpetual trophies you have at home. They can be returned to the club room on a Saturday morning or on a training day.
MSW 5 – 8 Years Development Meet
The Metro South West 5 – 8 Year Meet will be held next Saturday 9th March at the Gordon Fetterplace Aquatic Centre, The Parkway, Bradbury.
Due to lower-than-expected entry numbers entries are still open and close tomorrow. So, if you have been thinking about entering the meet don’t delay.
The meet commences at 2.00pm (with warm-up from 1.00pm) and is a great meet for our younger swimmers to experience a swimming meet, so we encourage all of our swimmers who are in the age range to enter the meet.
Lions Club Award
Take the time to recognise the contribution of your fellow members by nominating them for the Lions Club Award. Nominations can be made online here.
Swimming NSW Senior Metrops
Four swimmers represented our club last weekend at the Senior Metropolitan Championships held at SOPAC.
Our team swam 3 new personal best times, with Leo Zhu swimming new PBs in both his 50m Breaststroke and 50m Freestyle, while Daniel Vicic swam a new PB in his 50m Freestyle at his first Metropolitan Championships.
Matthew Vicic swam his third fastest 200m Butterfly and Joseph Assi swam his second fastest times ever in the 100m Breaststroke and 200m Breaststroke.
Congratulations to you all.
Upcoming School Swim Meets
With school swimming carnivals moving into the next level we have club members swimming in the following meets this week:
- Merrylands/Parramatta P.S.S.A. (6th March at Merrylands)
- Wentworthville/Seven Hills P.S.S.A. (6th March at Blacktown)
- Blacktown P.S.S.A (7th March at Blacktown)
Good luck to everyone competing in these (and any other meets that may be underway). May the Whale be with you all

Open Water Swim Success
So you no doubt noticed the absence of Mr Wilson from club races last Saturday (yes it was a bit quieter around the pool). After a big SwimFest meet he took a well-deserved weekend “break” down in Huskisson. But you can’t keep him out of the water. Ian had a great result finishing 2nd in his age group for the 1k Husky Open Water (24th overall out of 187 competitors).
Ian has constantly achieved podium finishes in Open Water swims this summer and continued that success last weekend. Congratulations Ian.
Hoodie and Swim Parka Orders
Do you want to order a Club Hoodie or Swim Parka? They are great for keeping dry and warm at club races or training!
Both can be pre-ordered via the club shop, but hurry as orders will close next Saturday - 9th March.
Size information for the Swim Parkas can be found on the website. Check with Margaret on Hoodie sizes if you are unsure.
Anzac Day 2024
As we advised last week we plan to participate in the Cumberland Anzac Day Dawn Service this year. The service will be held from 5.30am at Charles Mance Reserve, Newman Street, Merrylands and commences with a march from the Merrylands RSL Club in Miller Street, Merrylands at 5.15am.
Keep an eye out for more information in coming weeks and we encourage you to set aside the morning to attend the Dawn Service.
P-Plate Award
Have you seen something that deserves a nomination for the P-Plate award? I am sure we have some early contenders already but are always looking for more nominations. To nominate click here.
Time to get Involved
As we start to plan the Annual Presentation and AGM we ask you to consider getting involved in the running of the club. More information shortly on the dates for these events.
