Welcome to our Spring Racing Carnival
Welcome back to Merrylands Swimming Centre and club races. This week and next are an opportunity to prepare for the competition season, which starts on Saturday 12th October (no club races on Saturday 5th October due to the long weekend and school holidays). Please note that swims during the Spring Carnival don’t count as qualification swims for the Club Championships – you need to swim the event after 1st October to qualify.
With Guildford Swimming Centre now closed (and fully demolished) we were successful in requesting Cumberland City Council re-open Merrylands Swimming Centre earlier this year and to also extend the closing date to the end of April 2025. We will also continue to work with Cumberland City Council to extend the opening period over the timeframe it takes to rebuild and open the new Guildford Swimming Centre.

Swimming NSW Registration is open
Registration for the 2024/2025 season is now open and instructions on how to re-register for the summer are on the How to Join page. Swimmers can enter our Spring Racing Carnival before renewing their 2024/2025 memberships, but won't be able to enter events after 1st October.
We are again providing Free Membership for swimmers 8yrs & Under, who regularly swim in our club races. See the club website for more information about this.
Metro South West LC Area Championships
The Metro South West LC Area Championships will be held on Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th October at SOPAC.
Entries close on Wednesday 16th October. Swimmers will have 3 weeks of club races to attempt any qualifying times they require before the closing date. The program of events and qualifying times are available here.
Casual Swimming Coach opportunities
Merrylands Amateur Swimming Club is seeking enthusiastic Swimming Coaches to assist with our Squad Program at Merrylands Swimming Centre (and Wentworthville Swimming Centre during the winter season).

Learn to Swim – Council offer
Cumberland City Council is offering learn to swim lessons at Merrylands Swimming Centre this season and have a special offer available for a limited time. They are offering a free Council swim membership and half price swimming lessons at Merrylands Swimming Centre for enrolments between 16th September and 13th October. Relay Competition – new format
We are trialling a new Relay event for this year to replace the previous Relay Competition.
A trial event will be held next Saturday (28th September). To get involved, enter event 15R via Swim Central for next week’s races. The Competition Committee will create teams of 2 and teams will be given a time handicap. The first team to the wall wins.
Donations
We have partnered with the Australian Sports Foundation to allow supporters to make tax-deductible donations to the club.
Funds raised will go towards upgrading and maintaining our timing equipment and results systems, providing better facilities for you, our members.
Of course, we will also continue to seek grants and sponsorship to help fund these purchases, but any donation you make will help us to reach our goals faster.
