Alison Johnston was presented with the Champion of Champions trophy at the club’s annual Presentation Evening last night.
Alison won both her Age and Open Championships, set a new club record in the 50m Freestyle, and represented the club at Metropolitan, State Age and State Open Championships. She finished over 200 points ahead of the 2nd placed swimmer and was a deserved recipient of the award.
The night began with presentation of the Pointscore trophies, where many of our youngest members received their first ever trophy. The competitions were close, with many only decided by a handful of points. Matthew Vicic was the Boys and Overall Pointscore Champion with a huge 277 points, followed by Helen Macpherson on 234 who won the Girls Pointscore. In the Senior Pointscore, Peter Johnston won the Mens by just 2 points, while Tricia Johnston won the Womens by 4 points.
The Relay competition went down to the wire with the top 3 teams only separated by 1 point going into the last round. The "Young Guns" came out on top in the end to successfully defended their title, again with a margin of just one point.
Ian Wilson took home the hotly contested Senior Handicap award. The Learn to Swim Award, which is presented to a Club Member who is voted by their peers for assisting with the club’s LTS program, was awarded to Emily Tovkach.
Six members of the club’s swimming squads were recognised for their efforts at training over the past season, consistently doing their best, listening to their coach and having positive attitude towards their training. Congratulations to Shaurya Garg, Nevah Shrestha, Michael Evans, Alison Johnston, Ian Wilson and Melissa Cohen who all received a club beanie.
Margaret Edwards and Amanda Smart presented the Jack Smart Encouragement Award to Lisa Shrestha. This award is in memory of Life Member, Jack Smart and is presented to a junior swimmer for consistent improvement through the season, starting at 25m and progressing to longer distances.
Jim Pye Development Award or “Minties” Trophy, which is in memory of Life Member, Jim Pye was presented to a junior swimmer who has swum consistently over the season, steadily improving and representing the club at various swimming meets. Summer Shrestha was the well-deserved recipient of this award.
The Lions Award, which is presented to a club member in recognition of their services to the club over the past season was awarded to Alison Johnston, while Graham Edwards was announced as the Technical Official of the Year.
